Rebecca Dunn

Contemporary Artist

We move fast. We rush between places, scroll past moments, and try to keep everything tidy and under control. But nature doesn’t work that way—and neither do we. Water spills. Weather shifts. Plans change. Gardens grow wild when you stop paying attention.
My work begins there.
I spend a lot of time outside—mountain biking through the woods, mushroom hunting, tending my yard, noticing how light lands on leaves or how a trail curves just enough to surprise you. Those moments slow me down. They remind me that beauty often comes from letting go a little.
In my paintings, watercolor is poured onto wet paper and allowed to bloom freely. I give the paint space to wander, to pool, to surprise me. Later, I step back in—adding line, geometry, and structure. That balance between surrender and intention mirrors how I move through life: trusting the process, then choosing what to hold onto.
The shapes in my work aren’t about control—they’re about care. They frame the chaos, offer pause, and create places for the eye (and the mind) to rest. I want the paintings to feel approachable, lived with, like something you notice more each time you pass by.

Mentored by renowned artist Phyllis Shafer, I developed a deep sensitivity to color and composition. Through my work, I aim to create a sense of calm and openness—art that feels lived in, approachable, and meant to be shared.

In addition to my studio practice, I teach workshops,
I'm a board member for the
Katonah Museum of Art Association and the
Katonah Art Walk.
I'm an active member of
Yellow Studio,
Ridgefield Guild of Artists and
 Stamford Art Association.

My work has been exhibited in galleries across the country, and I remain dedicated to continuing my art development and education.

Alongside my studio practice, I’m passionate about building community among artists. I created IG @artscene.ctny
to highlight and share art shows happening in the Westchester and Fairfield areas.
